Coach Jessie Holder
Coach Jessie Holder is preparing for her second season as Head Coach of the Girls’ JV Volleyball Team here at Warren High. Although new to our coaching staff, Coach Jessie has been a Warren Bear for over 20 years. Jessie was a three-sport athlete when she attended Warren High School from 1999-2003 and earned a full scholarship to play libero at San Jose State University. At SJSU she was a 4-year captain, 4-year All-Conference Scholar Athlete, 2-time First Team & 2-time Second Team All-Conference Selection. While at SJSU, she broke every conference defensive record there was to break (most career digs, digs in a season, digs in a game, and highest digs/game average). She finished her senior season with the 8th most career digs in NCAA history.
While playing collegiate volleyball, Coach Jessie started her coaching career in both the club and high school setting. Coach Jessie is in her 17th season of coaching club volleyball for Club Gecko in Downey, and will be coaching her 10th season of high school volleyball at WHS in the Fall. Coach Jessie is a big believer in developing athletes to have solid fundamentals, a passion for the game, and an incredible desire to compete.
When she is not coaching, she is actively pursing her Special Education Teaching Credential and can be found on campus at Warren as a long-term substitute. Coach Jessie has a husband Chris, who is the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA. Together they have 3 kids, Elogious (11), Delaney (9), and Avery (7) all of whom play many sports, including baseball, basketball, karate, dance, and of course volleyball.
Coach Kendall Sonico
Kendall Sonico grew up in Downey, and is a Warren High School graduate. She began playing volleyball at the age of 12, when she realized that all the other sports she played did not compare to her love for volleyball. At Warren High School, she played on the volleyball team for all four years, under Coach Scott Lane for the last two years. One of her goals was to continue playing volleyball in college, which she attained when she took her passion for volleyball all the way to the East Coast. Sonico attended Kean University in Union, New Jersey where she played four years in the Kean volleyball program. She received the opportunity to travel, play, and lead her team to victories against other Division 3 teams along the East Coast.
Her team won the NJAC Conference Championship in her Senior year and appeared in the NCAA D3 Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland. Sonicograduated from Kean University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Global Business. Volleyball has always been a
part of her life and she is very excited to share her passion and enthusiasm for volleyball with all of you!
